Yet another HTML5 video player ? Well NO! Our player 3WDOC is designed to play videos but obviously much more than that! The player 3WDOC purpose is to animate HTML5 elements over a timeline in order to design a web narration but also, for instance, to interact with other resources available on the Web such as APIs (Google maps, Twitter, Facebook, Flick ...), all this within your favorite CMS (Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla ...).

The 3WDOC Player's ultimate goal is to enable one or several author(s) to create an authentic web story. 3WDOC Player is a versatile tool to create and deliver rich media experiences optimized in HTML5 to run across the web. This technology can be applied to any kind of rich media sites, like for instance for the emerging genre named webdocumentary. So naturally, here in 3WDOC, we summarize the project concept in this simple motto: "Facilitating the digital storytelling on the Web".

Why did we choose HTML5?

Within a few months, the HTML5 gained an amazing notoriety. Multiple initiatives attest to the excitement in using HTML5. Most of the video sharing platforms are now delivering their videos within a player made in HTML5 (Vimeo, YouTube, Viddlr, Dailymotion ...). Many heavyweight champions in the video business on the Web (longtailvideo, Brightcove ...) are also providing HTML5 solutions. All these actors were so far confined to solutions in Flash/Flex.

Why 3WDOC Player is different from an HTML5 video player? let's do a quick list of all projects that have blossomed in recent months: Projekktor, VideoJS, SublimeVideo, Media Front, Kaltura, FlareVideo. None of these players do have the flexibility and versatility that is central to the project 3WDOC. Unlike many Players, 3WDOC Player combines in an unique way, three elements: media, narration or storytelling and interaction!

This flexibility leads to greater interoperability with other platforms, an ability to integrate any media type (video, photos, sounds, text, maps ...) and of course to articulate these medias in a narration via interactive screens immediately available on the Internet.

  • Our 3WDOC Editor is a WYSIWYG Editor for the code read by the 3WDOC Player. This 3WDOC Editor will be soon available in standalone but also in all your favorite CMS (Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla...). The 3WDOC Player bundled with the 3WDOC Editor compose the 3WDOC Studio.

  • Our 3WDOC Player can be manipulated with the jQuery javascript framework. All effects, actions, manipulations available in jQuery are possible.

  • Our 3WDOC Player is easily customizable with 3WDOC jQuery UI ThemeRoller.

  • Our 3WDOC Player requires only basic knowledge of the HTML5. A simple integrator can use and modify at will the sequences made with the HTML5 markup without special knowledge.

  • Our 3WDOC Player supports all video and audio formats made for HTML5 (.ogg, .mp4)

  • Our 3WDOC Player allows any type of interaction with elements within a webpage that contains the player (cookie, other APIs, any areas outside the Player zone...)

  • The sequences played by the 3WDOC Player are perfectly optimized for search engines. Our approach in our 3WDOC project development takes care of the Search Engine Optimization aspect.

The 3WDOC Editor

The 3WDOC Editor is a sequence editor, it enables the user to create, manipulate, and update sequences made for the 3WDOC Player. It is currently in development.

Why an editor?
Our goal is to enable anyone to create, WYSIWYG, rich interfaces and narratives on the Web by maximizing the potential of 3WDOC Player.

To increase the adoption of our 3WDOC Player, it was obvious to the 3WDOC team to develop an editor. The 3WDOC Editor will facilitate the HTML5 code editing of the rich interfaces in order to simplify their creation.
  • The 3WDOC Editor primary function is to edit and manipulate all available sequences in the creation of your digital story and your interfaces without any technical knowledge. All the webapplication 3WDOC Studio (Editor & Player) can be deployed in standalone or integrated via a plugin / module within your favorite CMS, WordPress or Drupal for instance.

  • Within a CMS, or in standalone mode (standalone), the sequencer will also offer an ability to collaborate between different authors on the Internet. This "co-creation is made possible by the various roles and capabilities that will be available in the 3WDOC Editor in itself or within the CMS.
