The abundance of webdocumentaries (webdocumentaires) that come out since last few weeks leaves somehow the 3WDOC editorial team a bit dazzled and shaky. We can wonder if any kind of Flash production, with or without full-screen capability, will be now in the most consensual manner always categorized as webdoc. Again, it is not up to us to decide, we stay away from any controversy. After all, the web, to parody the words of Malraux*, such as movies and television is an industry with a wide variety of works produced, from niche products to mainstrean productions.
So here’s a mainstream high-quality production, concocted by CAPA ** and MSN, we let you discover it. The only thing to say or to remember for the whiners who are wondering which business model is there for webdoc, CAPA shows the way in its way, the question remains whether is it a webdoc or not? This is reminiscent of the controversy, very Franco-French, already old, to define the DNA of some audiovisual productions such as Loft Story once categorized as “creation” or Popstars labelized by the Scam and therefore obtaining some subsidies as a documentary.
Against all odds, seeking for the essence and not the appearances like some kind of marxist, 3WDOC finally get their hands on the crew, who has done this remarkable execution in Flash production, www.photosim.fr probably Simon Bouisson and others … And at the same time to discover another webdoc, www.lescommunesdeparis.fr, a niche within mainstream !

* “Par ailleurs, le cinéma est une industrie” (Moreover, cinema is an industry) That is the conclusion of Andre Malraux extracted from Esquisse d’une psychologie du cinéma. A sentence that any good student in multimedia, film and digital storytelling …. should be able to quote somewhere one day!
**CAPA, founded in 1989, celebrated his 20th anniversary with a web documentary, telling the very rich hours of Herve Chabalier and his company: CAPA, 20 ans à hauteur d’hommes.
